Vectorization of highways based on the mobile laser scanning data in the Czech Republic
One of the tasks of TVIS during the year was the implementation of the project of vectorization of roads with adjacent infrastructure according to mobile laser scanning of the territory of the Czech Republic within the framework of the project “Consolidation of cartographic vector data developed in different years using CAD and GIS systems”.
The aim of the project is to create a detailed and accurate cartographic database that will provide high-quality data of infrastructure objects of the road network of the Czech Republic.
Thus, the specialists of our company vectorized roads with a total length of 2100 km with the adjacent infrastructure.
Vectorization of highways with a total length of 2100 km is complex and requires significant efforts and resources. If we consider that each kilometer of the road and the adjacent infrastructure contains many details, we can understand how important it was to have a qualified team of specialists who coped with this task in eight months of the project.
A particularly difficult and interesting task was the vectorization of bridges, overpasses on highways, as well as hydraulic structures that provide the road network, since these objects have complex geometries and details that need to be displayed in vector format with appropriate accuracy.
Also, during vectorization, some infrastructure objects were in a state of renovation, which required clarification on the ground, repeated geodetic measurements and their parallel updating in the cartographic base
Imprint:
- Point cloud (density 3500-4500 points per m2 )
- Panoramic images
- Control sections after 15 m
- Database of geodata (with classifier of infrastructure objects)
- Terms of reference
- Vectorization accuracy 12 cm

Thus, the creation of a detailed and accurate cartographic database is a prerequisite for providing quality data on road network infrastructure objects. This makes it possible to collect, process and analyze information about the road network and surrounding infrastructure with high accuracy and reliability.
